A Short Article: 4 Proven Tactics for Parents to Keep Kids' Natural Love for Learning.
We are natural-born learners, but we fall out of this love by adulthood.
Because of natural curiosity, kids keep asking, "why?" They love exploring, so they learn at an insane pace. But parents and schools make mistakes that impact kids for a lifetime. Children turn into adults who hate learning.
That's why I read the bonus chapter of "Limitless" by Jim Kwik: “Raising Limitless Children.”
And I discovered how to make sure my kids will always love learning.
Here are 4 tactics.
1. Let learning be fun.
"All learning is state dependent." Jim Kwik.
Kids love unstructured learning.
But parents and schools teach differently. They add structure and rules to learning. Also, they expect kids to focus on one thing only.
And that's wrong!
Kids see their environment as a whole. By combining and exploring, they create paths and connections inaccessible to adults. That's creativity!
Ensure you don't kill it by forcing constraints.
2. Know that learning comes in phases.
Learning is a process.
What's hard today may become obvious tomorrow. Don't get stressed out when your kid struggles with a specific topic.
It doesn't make him a slow learner.
Tune down your expectations. Your child doesn't want to disappoint parents and teachers. When he struggles, the additional pressure leads to frustration and discouragement. Let him know it's normal and you're proud.
Praise the hard work, not the results.
3. Encourage them when they fail.
Turn every failure into a learning opportunity.
Explain to your kids that failures are inevitable and necessary to get better. When they fail, reflect together. Find the positive and the negative outcome. Brainstorm the action plan to avoid similar failures in the future.
Don't pretend failure didn't happen.
Try to make humor out of the situations. Try to find funny solutions. Also, don't hide your failures. Show them to your kid. Ask them to help you learn from your mistakes.
If you show your kids that failures are part of life, they will learn to bounce back and overcome obstacles.
4. Find out what kind of learners they are.
We distinguish 3 learning styles:
V for Visual - learn through illustrations, charts, video, and other visual media.
A for Auditory - learn by listening to a lecture, a discussion, a podcast, or an audiobook.
K for Kinesthetic - learn by doing, physical interaction. Taking a hands-on approach. Examples: cooking, DIY.
Of course, most kids combine the styles. Find out which methods they prefer. Don't force them to learn from the other ones.
Final Thoughts.
Fostering natural love for learning gives your kids a great start in adult life.
As a parent, you must take responsibility for that. Don’t rely on school.

"Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere." Chinese Proverb.
"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young." Henry Ford.
A Neuroscience Fact: The human brain lacks pain receptors.
The skull protects the brain. So there was no advantage to having sensory nerves in the brain.
Brain surgeries need only local anesthetic to "penetrate" the skull. But usually, the patient is fully aware and awake.
Thanks for reading. See you next week.
Keep your brain in mind.
